ENCIRQ Completes $5.4 Million in Series A Financing
Strengthens Board with Experienced Technology Luminaries.
SAN FRANCISCO, CALIF.-December 6, 2004- Encirq Corporation, the leading provider of real-time data integration and management software for device development, today announced that it has closed $5.4 million in venture financing which will be used towards worldwide business expansion. US-based Geneva Venture Partners and Novus Ventures joined existing investors JP Morgan Partners and Technology Partners in participating in this round of financing. Japan-based SunBridge Corporation and Itochu Technology Ventures, as well as Start-up 101 Ventures, a Japanese-American venture fund, participated in the financing, demonstrating the Japanese market's response to Encirq’s innovative technology. Encirq also announced that Naren Gupta, vice chairman of Wind River Systems, Inc., Igor Sill of Geneva Venture Partners, and Stewart Schuster of Novus Ventures have joined the company’s board of directors.
Complementing the existing team of David Golden, Director of Global Technology, Media and Investment Banking for JP Morgan, and Encirq’s founder and CEO, Mark Vogel, the new board appointments broaden Encirq's expertise, bringing added depth of business and thought leadership as the company continues its aggressive expansion.
Igor Sill is managing director of Geneva Venture Partners and founder and president of GenevaGroup International, Inc., an executive search firm. He brings to the Encirq board significant experience in helping CEOs build effective management teams, including Larry Ellison at Oracle, Tom Seibel at Seibel Systems and Marc Benioff at Salesforce.com. Prior to forming GenevaGroup, Sill was a founding management team member of INGRES.
“Encirq’s technology transforms the way embedded developers build devices, offering unparalleled functionality and value,” said Sill. “I am extremely pleased to join Encirq's board and help guide its development as the leader in real-time data integration.”
Stu Schuster is a general partner at Novus Ventures. He served as both a venture partner at Brentwood Venture Capital and an independent investor since 1995, specializing in enterprise software. Schuster’s extensive investing experience spans more than 15 companies, many which went public or were successfully acquired. Schuster was previously executive vice president of marketing at Sybase from its initial product launch through $1 billion in revenue. He was named to the 1994 All-Star Executive Team by Upside magazine, being recognized for pioneering the marketing of client-server architecture. Schuster’s leadership in helping companies adopt new technologies will greatly benefit Encirq.
“Just as databases transformed the economics of building enterprise systems in the 80's, Encirq’s technology transforms the economics of building intelligent devices,” said Schuster. “Encirq brings data-centric design to embedded development, enabling enterprises to leverage the value of their data to build more innovative products. I am excited to now lend my expertise to create this new market transformation.”
Naren Gupta is a veteran of the embedded systems market. He was founder of Integrated Systems, Inc., one of the first companies to market products for the development of embedded systems software, and served as ISI’s president and CEO from its founding in 1980 until 1994 and as the chairman until 2000. Gupta is currently the vice chairman of Wind River Systems and also serves on the board of TIBCO Software.
“Companies are increasingly looking to real-time data integration and management to differentiate their products,” said Gupta. “Encirq 3e’s development framework provides a key solution for building higher quality devices faster than the competition and with lower development costs. With its industry-leading technology, I am looking forward to working with this innovative startup.”
Encirq’s real-time data integration technology brings value to customers by enabling developers to build more intelligent devices, including automotive electronics, wireless handsets, consumer electronics products and communications equipment and appliances. Encirq’s flagship product, Encirq 3e, is the first distributed data management system that supports peer-to-peer data management, leveraging dynamic data both within and across devices, which makes the development of embedded tabular and streaming data more efficient, compact, flexible and reliable. Customers are able to develop highly-differentiated products and services resulting in increased revenue, margins, and market share.
“Over the past year, Encirq has built tremendous momentum which has been validated by significant customer wins and partnerships,” said Vogel. “Combined with the addition of highly-respected new board members, this funding will enable us to strengthen our team and significantly expand our marketing, sales and customer support efforts, both in the US and abroad.”
